Early Season Surprises: The Bad
Of course, not all surprises are good ones. These players and teams have not exactly gotten off to the kind of starts that they were expecting.
Early Season Surprises: The Good
About 10 games into the season, we haven't reached the point where we should be drawing any definitive conclusions (this is the equivalent of Week 1 in the NFL, after all). But we have seen enough baseball to be at least a little surprised with the performance of some players and teams.

Milestone
One of the game's elder statesmen reached a milestone statistic yesterday. Omar Vizquel, the 43 year old third baseman for the White Sox nabbed his 2,800th hit.

Opening Day(s) Stats
Now that we've got Opening Day(s) out of the way, I thought I'd share some of the stats that jumped out at me.
Thanks to his big fly yesterday, Chone Figgins, is on pace to hit 162 HR's this year. Ok, I know that's ridiculous but he should at least be able to surpass last year's total of 1.

Predictions 2011: Postseason
I'm sure the predictions that I've already made will make me look like an idiot by the end of the year, so I might as well go all the way and give you my postseason picks.
Predictions 2011: AL Individual Awards
There may be no 'I' in team, but that doesn't stop us from handing out individual awards. Here are my predictions for this year's AL Awards.

Rule 5
Yesterday, during the Scrappy draft, a few of us in the Madison contingent were discussing the Rule 5 draft and the thought continued for me as I watch the Phillies and Braves, two clubs with Rule 5'ers in the starting lineup and expected to make big contributions.

Charlie Sheen Announces Baseball Comeback (Forgot He Never Actually Played in the MLB)
Charlie Sheen, having recently lost his regular gig on 'Two and a Half Men" has decided that the best use of his Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA is on the pitching mound. Citing the longevity of Jaime Moyer and former Indians 'teammate' Julio Franco, as well as the fact that he hasn't pitched since 1994, Sheen believes that he has plenty left in the tank to offer prospective major league suitors. Although no reporters have had the opportunity to observe any of Sheen's bullpen sessions, his Terminator is said to have some nice zip and his Eliminator and Humiliator are showing good movement. Scrappy owner Greg Wiener is reported to be very interested in adding Sheen to his roster as soon as he becomes available.
Adam Malka, Dog Whisperer
In what is being touted as a stunning development in human-canine relations, Ph.D. candidate and Fantasy Baseball savant, Adam Malka, has made a fantastic breakthrough. After finding a ball sometime between drafting Derrick Lee and taking his laptop into the forbidden zone, Mr. Malka discovered that dogs like balls. In a tragic and, unfortunately un-pictured follow up, the dogs found Mr. Malka's 'other' balls.
Luke Scott still available, Scrappy Birthers Lining Up On Waiver Wire
Despite a stellar spring training and tremendous upside and versatility, Luke Scott went undrafted in the recent Scrappy Nation 2011 Draft. As word of his availability spread throughout the league, Scrappy Birthers have been busy putting in waiver requests to the commissioner's office. In other news, Donald Trump may or may not have been Greg's super proxy, better known as Nutso.
It's Back!
In celebration of a new year of Scrappy (and the free time that I have to contribute), I'm bringing back the Scrappy Nation blog. Keep posting to the league message board, but if you need a little more space to get your point across, this is the place to do it. I hope we have a little more success with the blog this time around.
Keep it Scrappy
